After being made redundant from a job that I held for 14 years, I was stuck for things to do in my given 'down-time'.
Finding a job at the time was proving quite difficult, and I was starting to lose hope...and patience.
I have always appreciated and enjoyed photography, but it was not until this life-changing event that I fully realised just how much I loved it, and how much it was beginning to save me.
So, in needing something to do, I searched my local council website for free activities. It was late in the Winter of 2014 when this was taken. I decided to attend a 'Bird-Walk' at the Botanic Garden where I live. Being not particularly fond of birds, I was more interested in leaving the house and interacting with people than the purpose of the walk.
The people? They were serious 'Birders' with their binoculars and bird logging sheets of paper. And there I was with my camera and its 42x optical zoom. I think it was fairly obvious that I was new to the whole birding experience. A 'noob' if you will.
I think I took one bird photo the whole walk - which I will post at some point.
In general, I like to look up. To see the positive in the negative, even when it's hard. I'm glad I looked up when I took this shot on my bird-walk because it is one my favourites, and one I'm most proud of.
