Hung Out to Dry

I'm mostly a nature photographer because I appreciate the flow, and the natural evolution of it. I mostly take shots of things that you wouldn't ordinarily see or take notice of like these things...seed pods? I don't know. Whatever they are, I appreciate the desiccation and the decay of it much more than I appreciate what was there
 before.

It's hard to enjoy things at the moment, life has become incredibly overwhelming, and more than ever I need my photography, and I need nature to keep being beautiful and exquisite and inviting and ever-changing.

Ropable

For my birthday last year, my flatmate bought me a portable soft-box cube with lamps.
I was starting to get a little more serious about photography and I was slowly learning my way around my new camera and how to use all of the functions effectively, and I applied what I learned when I took this shot. Adjusting the aperture and the shutter speed was more or less a lesson in patience. Trial and error was key in getting this just perfect and to my own expectations. The rope is actually from my cat scratching post that my flatmate suggested I take a photo of, and the glass is something we use for puddings. Because that's what you do!!
Speaking of cats, I have two. Thomas Jorge Chong and Francesca Brigitta Habib - and they are currently tempting me away from my studies with their bedroom eyes and twitching whiskers. The weather here in Australia is getting cooler by the day which means one thing - kitty cuddles. It's my favourite time of the year for that exact reason...

Bird and Web

This is the one (decent) bird shot that I took on my bird walk that I wrote about in my previous post.

I said that I wasn't particularly fond of birds, but I definitely admire their patience and their strength. I actually took a few shots of this little fella, and I was probably standing still for a good 5 minutes just watching this bird. I couldn't decide whether he had just had a snack, since there is no visible spider, or whether he was waiting for the web's next victim...

What I like most about this shot is the intricacy and delicacy of the web.
The bird here, I think represents will, and the web represents a vulnerability.

Constellation

After being made redundant from a job that I held for 14 years, I was stuck for things to do in my given 'down-time'.
Finding a job at the time was proving quite difficult, and I was starting to lose hope...and patience.

I have always appreciated and enjoyed photography, but it was not until this life-changing event that I fully realised just how much I loved it, and how much it was beginning to save me.

So, in needing something to do, I searched my local council website for free activities. It was late in the Winter of 2014 when this was taken. I decided to attend a 'Bird-Walk' at the Botanic Garden where I live. Being not particularly fond of birds, I was more interested in leaving the house and interacting with people than the purpose of the walk.

The people? They were serious 'Birders' with their binoculars and bird logging sheets of paper. And there I was with my camera and its 42x optical zoom. I think it was fairly obvious that I was new to the whole birding experience. A 'noob' if you will.

I think I took one bird photo the whole walk - which I will post at some point.

In general, I like to look up. To see the positive in the negative, even when it's hard. I'm glad I looked up when I took this shot on my bird-walk because it is one my favourites, and one I'm most proud of.
